SJ-05H & H Series Food Freeze Dryer FAQ

12 practical answers for SJ-05H buyers, with clear limits on applying 5H data to other H-series food freeze dryers. Covers loading, cycle time, temperature, energy, materials, electrical versions and after-sales support.

Food Freeze Dryer FAQ

This FAQ starts with SJ-05H (5H) food freeze dryers and explains which questions also apply to the wider H series. Model-specific figures are labelled; no equipment or delivery prices are included.

1. What is the actual fresh-fruit loading capacity of the SJ-05H?

The published 5–7 kg per batch is a reference fresh-material range, not a guaranteed load for every fruit. SJ-05H has four trays, each nominally 220 × 550 × 20 mm, with approximately 0.48 m² total nominal tray area. Actual loading depends on fruit density, slice thickness and how the food is spread. Thinly spread fruit may weigh less than 5 kg. Tell us the fruit and intended preparation so that we can recommend a practical loading arrangement.

See the H Series loading guide. Its worked examples are calculations based on stated assumptions, not measured batch guarantees.

2. How long does a typical SJ-05H food freeze-drying cycle take?

A typical food freeze-drying cycle is approximately 30 hours. This is a planning reference, not a guaranteed completion time. Actual duration varies with the food, slice thickness, batch loading, pre-freezing, operating conditions and selected program. Check that the batch is fully dry before packaging. Do not assume the same duration for every other H-series model or load.

3. How cold do the shelves get during pre-freezing?

During pre-freezing, cooling is transferred from the condenser to the shelves. Our tests show the following minimum shelf temperatures:

  • -40°C condenser version: approximately -30°C shelf temperature.
  • -60°C condenser version: approximately -40°C to -45°C shelf temperature.

4. Are rated power, operating power and electricity consumption the same?

No. Rated input power is the nameplate specification for the exact model and electrical version. Operating power in kW changes during a cycle. Batch electricity consumption in kWh accumulates over time. An electrical supply or breaker rating in amperes is not a measured running-power value. Use the approved specification or nameplate for rated power rather than inferring it from voltage and current alone.

5. Where can I find electricity-consumption references for the H series?

See our H Series energy-consumption report (05H / 08H / 10H / 15H / 20H / 30H / 35H / 50H).

6. Are the trays and shelves both SUS304 stainless steel?

No. All H-series models use aluminum shelves for good heat transfer and SUS304 stainless-steel trays.

7. Is a vacuum pump included with the machine?

Yes. The vacuum pump is included.

8. Which electrical supply options are available for the H series?

ModelsAvailable power supply
SJ-05H / SJ-08H / SJ-10H110V or 220V; 50Hz or 60Hz.
SJ-15H220V only; 50Hz or 60Hz.
SJ-20H / SJ-30H / SJ-35H / SJ-50HSingle-phase: 220V, 50/60Hz. Three-phase: 220V or 380–400V, 50/60Hz.

Direct 208V single-phase or three-phase versions are not available. If your site voltage does not match, we will configure a suitable transformer. Please confirm the voltage, phase and frequency when ordering; a voltage transformer does not change the supply frequency.

9. What warranty coverage should I confirm before ordering?

Confirm the warranty period, start date, covered machine and pump, exclusions and claim procedure in the accepted order. H-series parts-based warranty service is limited to supplying covered replacement parts after fault confirmation. It does not include on-site repair or local technician labor. The buyer arranges and pays for local repair labor.

For purchases directly through shop.sjialab.com, consult its published Limited Warranty: it currently provides 12 months of machine and supplied-pump coverage, followed by 24 months of limited sealed-refrigeration-system parts coverage. Those store-specific terms should not be silently substituted for another sales channel’s agreement. This FAQ does not reduce an existing warranty or mandatory buyer rights.

10. Does free replacement-part supply include shipping and local repair?

No. Our parts-based warranty covers the approved replacement part only, not the buyer’s local technician or repair labor, including labor to remove or install parts. These labor costs and any on-site service costs are the buyer’s responsibility. Parts shipping and import charges are separate and follow the written order terms. Covered manufacturing defects are different from routine maintenance, normal wear, consumables or damage caused by incorrect power supply or misuse. Arrival defects and transport damage must be handled under the applicable order, platform rules and law. Electrical and refrigeration work should be performed by qualified personnel, not an untrained operator.

11. Are the H-series food programs the same as pharmaceutical process development?

No. The small H-series food-machine setup includes 10 stored freeze-drying programs to simplify food processing. A stored program is a starting point, not proof that every food, thickness or loading arrangement will dry identically. Confirm the program set and software version supplied with your machine. The H series is intended to freeze-dry food; it should not be equated with a pharmaceutical process-development or GMP production platform.

12. Can I apply these SJ-05H answers to larger H-series models?

Use the same comparison questions, but verify each model’s answers separately. For SJ-08H, SJ-10H, SJ-15H, SJ-20H, SJ-30H, SJ-35H and SJ-50H, check tray count and dimensions, practical food loading, condenser configuration, electrical supply, rated input, energy evidence and service scope. Do not multiply the 5H water-test result and label it a measured larger-machine result. Size production around realistic batches, cycle time and cleaning or turnaround, not a reference loading figure alone.
